SoulPath Art: Herons, Cyclones, and Tigers

Forget In Liike a Lion …..more aptly described this past month as “In Like a Hallucinating Rabid Saber-toothed Tiger…..Out Again Like Said Tiger….” I can’t even begin to describe the dramatic weather extremes Denver has experienced this March. One minute soft warm and beautiful, the next we’re barricaded in our houses against the vengeful ice and snow.

During the infamous Bomb Cyclone in which nature pulled out ALL the stops: hurling snow, ice, squirrels, and small children towards my windows…I was in my basement painting much warmer vibes.

Do you see the sinuous heron on the left side? Herons are usually blue, but apparently, their legs and eyes can be yellow or orange. Tapping into the heron vibes.

Lots of spring flowers and bountiful, anticipatory greens. I enjoyed painting this one, and didn’t ascribe too deep of a meaning to it. Until the next week, when we took a little trip to the Rocky Mountain Arsenal. Not only did we see a huge herd of bison, we also saw an actual blue heron! We were standing less than 20 feet away when it touched down in a nearby pond.

Herons bring the message of stubborn determination and self-reliance. Of following your own path, being unafraid to stand on your own in the pursuit of what you know is right (and best for you)….even if it goes against the grain. Herons do not mind being alone…they know how to fly in the air (freedom) and wade in the water (navigate their emotions).

What I love about all of this is that the heron showed up in two moments where I was expressing independent energy. It’s raging winter outside and I paint a spring/tropical scene, complete with heron (not tropical). Totally discordant with each other, yet my subconscious was urging me to look forward, beyond the confines of the present. In the other instance, the heron landed near us when I was talking about believing I could find my own way through art. (Long story for another blog).

Anyway, as dive forward into my favorite season, I’d love for the heron energy to visit you, giving you permission in any area of your life where you are not yet dancing your dance…… to shake your tail-feathers with solemn gusto.
